Base camp planning takes months, and paperwork is no exception when the climb happens in the Himalayas. Foreign climbers eyeing an Indian summit apply for the India e-Mountaineering Visa, a category granted for six months with multiple entries, though the visa alone isn't the finish line.
Expedition approval runs through the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, which reviews routes, assigns a liaison officer, and coordinates every climb in advance. Teams including Chinese, Pakistani, Afghan, or Bangladeshi nationals face an added layer of central government clearance. Submitting the eVisa application doesn't guarantee an expedition gets the green light, so early planning, ideally four months ahead, matters just as much as the online form itself.
